After centuries of skirmishes between rival dragon dynasties, the Great Rift Treaty was established in the wake of a long and destructive conflict known as the Battle of Ash and Gale. This treaty was signed at Draconhold and aimed to establish recognized territorial boundaries among the fire, storm, and earth dragon factions. While the peace was tenuous, the treaty set the groundwork for diplomatic relations that prevented large-scale warfare for several centuries. The event was also significant for kobold clans, as it stabilized regions and allowed them to grow in relative safety under the watchful eyes of their draconic patrons.
