A rogue group of kobold mages and shadow dragons, known as the Obsidian Shroud, attempted to tap into deep cosmic energies to alter the balance of power in Thaloria. Their actions led to a confrontation that culminated in a dramatic battle at the heart of the Veilspires. The Order of the Eternal Flame and the Twilight Courts managed to defeat the Obsidian Shroud, but not before the confrontation left lingering pockets of arcane disturbance that required continuous monitoring.
