The Shadow Trials Fourth Age (532) The Shadow Trials were instituted by Malachor as a method of rooting out dissent in his domain. Conducted annually, the Trials were a brutal competition where suspected rebels and dissidents were forced to undergo impossible tasks, often facing fiendish creatures or navigating deadly magical traps. Those who survived were either killed or, if their abilities seemed useful, enslaved and forcibly bound to Malachor’s service. The Trials became a tool of fear, reinforcing Malachor’s control and crushing morale among those who might have otherwise harbored thoughts of resistance. |
