The defenders, a coalition of dwarves, elves, and human warriors, held out heroically, but were eventually overwhelmed by Malachor's undead legions and fiendish commanders. The loss of Dawnstar was a severe blow to morale, as it symbolized the end of organized military resistance in Thaloria. Survivors of the battle went into hiding, forming small, scattered resistance cells throughout the realm.
