Backgrounds

Wizard's Apprentice

You spent a crucial part of your life under the tutelage of a practicing wizard -- maybe an eccentric mentor in a quiet tower, or a teacher employed by a small academy. You learned magical theory, basic spell preparation, and the importance of disciplined study. Though your master might have kept you on menial tasks, you absorbed arcane fundamentals that most people never dream of.

Feature: Apprentice's Toolkit

Once per short rest, you can quickly assist another spellcaster. When you use the Help action to aid a creature casting a spell (with a casting time of 1 action or longer), that creature has advantage on its spellcasting ability check (if it makes one) or one target of its spell has disadvantage on its saving throw against the spell's effects. You also reduce the casting time of the spell by 1 round (to a minimum of 1 action).
